Rapidweaver gallery stack3/23/2023 ![]() – The Chocolat lightbox is simple to configure – you can choose between showing and hiding the captions and slide counter and pick between a dark and white background.Only the first thumb will show, but clicking or tapping this will launch the image gallery in a lightbox. You simply add your images and thumbs in the normal way (see below) and then drop in the Single Image ‘Grid’ stack instead of one of the more traditional grids. ![]() – The Single Image isn’t really a grid at all but an easy way to use a single thumbnail to launch an entire gallery of images in a lightbox. – The Masonry grid is designed to accommodate thumbs of different shapes and sizes and does a good job of arranging these into a relatively ordered grid. – The Justified grid ensures that any thumbs occupy the full width of the page and supports a neat hover-over caption effect. A super-simple and super-effective layout. – Instagram grid removes any margins and arranges the thumbs in a tight grid again you can specify how many columns the grid spans at four different screen sizes. It’s one of the quickest ways to get a good looking image grid we’ve come across. – Flexbox grid lets you specify a maximum height for each thumb, set image margins and add a caption from the ALT tag (which will also be displayed in the lightbox if supported). – Foundry Theme grid is designed to work with Elixir’s new free-form Foundry theme and offers more or less the same features as the previous two. Again it’s a very quick way to build an attractive thumbnail grid. – The Foundation Theme grid acts very similarly to the Bootstrap grid but only works with Joe Workman’s Foundation theme. In order for this to work, you’ll need to use a theme that includes support for the free Bootstrap framework (otherwise you’ll get lots of unintended layout issues) or you’ll need to know ow to set this up yourself you can force thumbnails to be square for a neater effect and – like the other included grids – select how many columns across the thumbs occupy at various screen sizes knowing a little bit about the Bootstrap grid will help here. – Slick Slider – we had some problems with this and could either get it to display navigation dots and arrows underneath or thumbs, but not both. – Royal Slider adds thumbnails to the bottom of the lightbox window and is also designed to run full screen, making it very suitable for any kind of visually interesting portfolio site it has simple controls, support for captions and is very effective. – Flex Slider sits in between these two in terms of functionality, offering only slide and fade transitions, the ability to show/hide pagination and navigation, but no caption support – Camera Slider has more controls including 29 different transition styles (including a rather funky mosaic/stampede effect) captions, 32 colour schemes for the nav arrows and the ability to display or hide the navigation. – bx Slider is the plainest of the lot has a nice subtle border with a drop shadow, lets you control the image height and add captions at the bottom via the photo’s ALT tag but there’s no control over the transition type. There’s a lot to get through here so let’s break the main elements down a bit, starting with the sliders. No matter what you’re building, you start by adding the Gallery 3 stack, then choosing to add a grid or a slider and then adding your individual images, either one at time by dragging and dropping, by pointing to a directory on your web server or by choosing one of the built in CMS systems and then adding your images using them. To summarise then, you can use Gallery 3 either as a standalone slider or as a thumbnail grid where small images open into an overlaid lightbox. For a start you get a choice of eight different grid styles for your thumbnails – Bootstrap, Flexbox, Foundation, Foundry, Instagram, Justified, Masonry and Single Image – five different lightboxes for full sized images, and five different sliders.įactor in the ability to add images using Easy CMS or Total CMS from Joe Workman or via the Pulse CMS system (recently revamped with a new stacks-based interface which we’ll be looking at soon) or using the author’s own Remote Image Stack or even FTP, and you’ve got a powerful image gallery that’s flexible enough to replace a whole clutch of individual stacks. At nearly €30.00, Gallery 3 is one of the pricier image stacks around, but that’s because it has so many strings to its bow.
